A poem

By J-man:

I love basketball,
and being tall.
I don't like to fall,
and be small.
I love hiking,
and camping.
I like pocket knives,
high fives,
and I love you too.

Not quite sure on that last line, but I thought it was pretty cute for a 7 year old.

eta:Figured out that last line, apparently they were required to use that as their last line...weird, huh.

I think I forgot to mention

R got stitches at the end of December. In my mind I blogged this....I actually accomplish a lot in my mind, just not so much in real life.

J woke up with an abscessed tooth and got an emergency visit to the dentist. Of course his dentist was out of town, so the wonderful Dr. Butterfield came to the rescue. While he was there, our sweet neighbor agreed to watch R guy. Well, her son and R decided to see how far they could stretch a RUBBER exercise band. R guy was the strongest and so when his friend could no longer hold on, it snapped and cut him deeply. R was a trooper and didn't cry until I came home. Of course, I had left my cell phone in the car and they didn't know what to do! He was bleeding and definitely needed stitches. That's why I need my cell phone with me! We got him to Idaho Minor Emergency where we walked in and were immediately seen. R did NOT move an inch while they numbed it and gave him 4 stitches. He even watched. I've never seen him hold so still in his life.

He recovered quickly and was back to his favorite activity of putting lego sets together. This set he bought with Christmas money and put together all by himself. We are actually going to Legoland in 10 days. R can hardly contain his excitement. He REALLY loves legos! I can't wait to enjoy San Diego with the kids (and almost all of Dan's family) and am looking forward to warmer weather!

My little cougar fans

First off, loved everyone's comments from my last post about decorating. I am going to tackle little projects and focus on those small things. We also set up an automatic $20 deposit each paycheck to go into a furniture account, so by 2020 hopefully I will own some furniture!

I've been in the slump of all slumps and am so sick of feeling blah. Really. It's not fair sometimes. That's why I've decided I'm never going to be a great blogger because I kinda feel like if you can't say anything nice, you shouldn't say anything at all...so that leaves me speechless. I KNOW I'm blessed, so it's not that at all.

So on to the kiddos. Dan bought the baby a cute BYU cheerleader outfit for Christmas, so I have been wanting to take a picture of her in it before she outgrew it. You know, it is really hard to do these planned things...it shouldn't be, but it is. The sun hasn't shined for days/weeks. Finally, Sunday was beautiful, but we went to church, then Dan had to home teach and his companion was sick, so he took the boys, and Ava was grumpy...and by the time she woke up it was dark. I snapped 2 pictures of her before I put her down for a nap and sadly, that's all I ended up with- but she is cute. I still hope to take a picture of all 3 of them together.
As of 11 months she is still cruising around. She buckles her knees the minute she is standing on her own. She never wants to eat the same thing twice, which is rather inconvenient. No more baby food. I have to be really creative in thinking of new things for her, and it doesn't help that she is reacting to something but I can never figure out what because she won't just eat one food item for a week like they recommend. She is happy and only really cries when she has needs. She signs milk, eat and binky consistently now. She calls da-da when Dan walks in the room. She has 11 teeth (teething makes her grumpy!!) I can't believe next month she will turn ONE!

A fresh eye

I've been surfing various blogs and my favorites are typically interior designers. I am amazed at the thought they put into every single item. I've stopped seeing my house for the most part (and truth be told, myself too). It's funny because I love design shows and magazines, and yet, I really don't spend much time decorating my home. Part of it is money. I still haven't figured out how to buy those non-essential things in life. I found a dream bedroom design about 3 years ago that Dan liked also. I did rearrange our room and put shelves up like in the magazine. But, I have never managed to fork over the money for the rug, or a headboard, or the chair...or anything else. There was some artwork in the design that I thought I could manage to recreate. I did buy a canvas and make an attempt, but it didn't pan out...at all. At this point, I'm about ready to "move on" and I haven't actually created anything at all! How do you do it?

healthy habits continue

Well, I THOUGHT I was done with eliminating all those foods. But the doctor asked me to do it another 6 weeks. I am feeling a little better these days, so I am willing to continue on. I really miss bread though, and potatoes, and...well, everything I'm familiar with eating. So, I need a gameplan. It isn't so daunting when there is a plan. We had stir-fry tonight, and tomorrow is stuffed green peppers-I'll make mine without the meat. I need to do some research. Hopefully I will lose some weight in the process!!

Christmas Day

Oh the excitement of Christmas! J woke up super early, and we told him he had to wait awhile. At 7 we called Grandma and Grandpa to come over and woke R up.First they had to get Jesus out of the advent calendar. And put him in the nativity.J's reaction when he came downstairs was priceless. I think the shock that Santa did indeed come overtook him. He gave us this look. Then promptly fell down on the ground and laid there for a few seconds before he could get up and even look at his presents. We won't mention the fact that most of the excitement came from the fact that he thought he got a drumset. It was not a drumset, but a ramp for his bike. It was fun to share the excitement with the grandparents. After the boy's opened most of their presents we woke the baby up and brought her down. She wasn't sure what was going on, but she was happy with all the attention. What a fun morning!!
